Nicolas ODEN Testimonial

April 4, 2014 By John McKinnon Leave a Comment

The key benefit of working with John is the advantage of having access to his amazing knowledge on the processes and technologies he gathered during his career.

He is able to support you for process troubleshooting, pre-engineering studies, detailed engineering design ( such process P&IDs, hydraulic calculation, functional design specifications…), vendor selection, site construction check-outs, commissioning and start up, operator training… and may be more!

Not only is he highly capable as an expert on these subjects, but he always finds a way to make things accessible for a larger audience, using very comprehensive documents and clear explanations.

Tony Darnell Testimonial

April 4, 2014 By John McKinnon Leave a Comment

John played a critical role in the technical design of the new equipment and brought a great deal of experience to the project on how to tailor the design for an existing Kimberly-Clark facility with a unique and complex tissue manufacturing process.

Although this was contracted by a “turnkey” project, without John’s support the vender’s proposed designs would not have worked.

Ken Baker Testimonial

April 4, 2014 By John McKinnon Leave a Comment

I worked with John McKinnon for over a year on a particularly challenging capital project and throughout that time John demonstrated an exceptionally positive and focused skill set and attitude.

John’s water and waste water expertise was paramount to identifying and addressing engineering and process issues, working with a problematic joint venture supplier and the ‘hands on’ provision of communication and training for the client’s employees.

There is no doubt that the project benefited immensely from John’s involvement and the resulting operational efficiencies and effectiveness of the plant were largely achieved by his determination and drive.

Neutralizing Water pH Without Reliance on Expensive CO2

March 20, 2014 By John McKinnon Leave a Comment

The Situation:

Original Poor Mixing Pattern

An industrial plant was using a combination of boiler stack gas and expensive carbon dioxide (CO2) to lower the pH of its recycled water, which needed to be neutral prior to use.

The company was adding stack gas at several points in the treatment train using simple coarse bubble diffusers in a clarifier center well and a subsequent pH adjustment tank. [Read more…]

Serving as Client Liaison to Ensure Wastewater Project Success

February 25, 2014 By John McKinnon Leave a Comment

The Situation:
Serving as Client Liaison to Ensure Wastewater Project Success

Secondary Clarifier

Company leadership was concerned about the outcome of their large turnkey water and wastewater treatment plant project.  The consultant they had hired to lead the project was not familiar with the client’s industry, process needs, safety standards, design requirements, or project management standards.

The client had limited budget and scarce engineering resources.  They could not afford to make a mistake by allowing the turnkey consultant to proceed without proper guidance. [Read more…]

Removing Surfactants to Decrease Discharge Costs

February 25, 2014 By John McKinnon Leave a Comment

The Situation:

The wastewater generated by an industrial client was causing problems at the publicly owned treatment works (POTW) where it was being discharged.

Removing Surfactants to Decrease Discharge Costs

Pump Station Foam

This water’s high concentration of surfactants and other organic chemicals was causing intensive foaming in the pump stations and plugging the air relief valves in the force main.

The client was going to be prohibited from discharging to the POTW unless it could pretreat the water to remove the surfactants, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and suspended solids. [Read more…]

Without John in our team, we would not have been successful. Without him, and just relying on our turnkey contractor, we would have failed complying with our environmental permit consent, and we would have been forced to restart another project just to correct vendor errors.

By having John on this project, I did save a huge amount of capital reinvestment and waste of time and efforts.
